Instructions for Submission of the Application

Important dates

Program: June 2 - August 8, 2008
Arrival:  June 1 
Departure:  August 9

Application Deadline: February 4, 2008
Notification:  By April 7, 2008 

A complete application must include:

• One original and three one-sided copies of the completed application. Download the application form: REU Documents
  (NOTE:  Please use paper clips to collate copies.  DO NOT USE STAPLES.)

• One original and three copies of a current transcript. The transcript must include grades for Fall 2007 and courses in progress for Spring 2008. If an official transcript that includes Fall 2007 grades will not be available in time to meet the deadline you may submit a transcript through Spring or Summer 2007 and four copies of a list of courses and grades received for Fall 2007, as well as courses in progress for Spring 2008.  Transcripts are to be included with the application. Many transcripts obtained from the registrar cannot be duplicated legibly. You may submit typed copies of the original. Applications will be considered incomplete if the transcripts are not legible.

• Recommendations from two faculty members who are familiar with your academic ability, research ability, ability to function independently, and career goals. The recommenders should be able to address your potential as a graduate student and researcher.  At least one recommendation must be from a faculty member in a discipline related to your proposed research area.  Ask the faculty members to return the recommendation to you in an envelope with their signatures written across the sealed flap. Include these with your application. Alternatively, faculty may send recommendations directly to the program at the address below. Recommendations included with your application MUST be in a sealed and signed envelope to be accepted.  Only the original of each faculty recommendation is to be submitted; copies of recommendations are NOT necessary. • The application is to be completed using mechanical type (word processor, typewriter).

• Do not exceed page limitations specified for questions 16 & 17.

• Choose potential faculty mentors from the list with descriptions provided on this web site only. View the Mentors 2008 list here: (pending)

• Provide your recommenders with enough time to complete the forms and return to you or mail in time to be RECEIVED by the February 4th deadline.
