Nominator's statement

Seminal first work that laid the foundations for communication and perceptual theory in ethology and semiotics with a theoretical model anticipating much modern thought in cognitive neuroscience and philosophy. He is the source of concepts such as sign stimuli, releasers, search image, Umwelt, personal world, and counterworld among many others.
