Segregation of form, color, movement and depth: Anatomy, physiology and perception.
Livingstone M. & Hubel D. (1988)
Science, 240(4853):740-9, 1988

Nominator's statement

This paper translated the anatomical findings on the magnocellular and parvocellular pathways in vision into plausible perceptual roles. While the particular scheme proposed by these authors has been proven to be a bit overstated, the conjectures in this paper have stimulated a great deal of work in vision. The implications have been wide ranging, extending, for example, to dyslexia.
