Relation between critical flicker frequency and a set of low-freuency characteristics of the eye.
de Lange, H. (1954)
Journal of the Optical Society of America, 44, 380-389
- Nominator's statement
- This is probably the most influential article of the century for visual psychophysics. It introduced a systems-analytical approach that has been widely applied. In this, de Lange showed how visual sensitivity can be measured at any desired temporal frequency. The more frequently-cited work by Campbell and Robson (which is on the list) is an application of de Lange's method to the spatial frequency domain.
