- This paper provided some provocative data regarding recognizing mis-oriented object shapes. It spawned a great deal of research investigating the effect of changing viewpoint on object recognition behavior. Furthermore, this research provided a very intuitive explanation to how humans might discount variations in viewpoint. Furthermore, the work emphasized the problem faced by the human visual system in recognizing objects from images (i.e, viewpoints) that it has never seen before.
