The Operational Analysis of Psychological Terms
Skinner, B. F. (1945)
Psychological Review, 52, 270-277
- Nominator's statement
- This is Skinner's greatest paper. He provides an analysis of how humans come to be able to talk about private events in their consciousness. The ideas bear some similarity to those of Wittgenstein, but are nevertheless independent. Most interestingly, the ideas presented there, are ideas that allow one to make sense out of the role played by conscious awareness in everyday behavior, and have not been improved upon.
